Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 review
15 MayEngadget
More Info
When we review a second-generation product there are certain things we tend to take for granted: this new thing, whatever it is, will be thinner, faster, longer-lasting, maybe even with more bells and whistles in tow. With Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1, though, it's a little less obvious why its sequel is here. It offers near-identical specs, including a 10-inch, 1280 x 800 PLS display, dual-core 1GHz chip, 1GB of RAM and a minimum of 16GB of internal storage. What's more, this generation is slightly thicker and heavier, and sheds the LED flash that used to sit on the back side. But there's one detail we haven't mentioned yet: in addition to softening the specs, Samsung dropped the price by about hundred bucks, so that it now starts at $400.
Clearly, then, the 10.1 has evolved into a mid-range tablet, whereas it used to be the best Samsung had to offer. That's good news for penny-pinching shoppers, but Samsung has a bit of a problem on its hands: it's jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire, dodging direct competition with the new iPad, only to find itself competing with a raft of affordable tablets made by Acer, ASUS and even Apple. So how does Samsung's warmed-over 10.1 compare? Can it be a winner in the mid-tier category, at least? Let's find out.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 Review
14 MayUbergizmo

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is 1mm thicker and 14 grams / 0.49 oz lighter than its predecessor the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 that was introduced last year during Google I/O. The 10-inch Tab second generation features a more elegant design with a nice Titanium Silver color on its backside and new front facing speakers. In the United States, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 comes in WiFi only with 16GB of built-in storage capacity expandable to 32GB via a microSD card slot. We assumethat there might be an international 3G model somewhere, since the official specification page mention a different weight for the 3G model.
The most noticeable new feature is the lower price, at $399.99 for a 16GB (exp. to 32GbB) WiFi only model , the new Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is highly competitive in a space where most of the other latest similar tablets cost at least one hundred dollars more. If we compare the pricing to 32 GB models, knowing that you can get a microSD card for about $25, we can consider that the Tab 2 could save you about $175.
Storage capacity is a big deal when it comes to tablets: their primary function is content and entertainment consumption, specifically watching movies during long trips. HD movies are memory hungry, thus, being able to purchase a high quality 10-inch tablet with 32 GB storage capacity at a reasonable price is the most appealing feature.
Pricing is not everything, so we need to check if the performance and the user experience are comparable to the latest and the best tablets on the market. In case you are interested, check the complete review, enjoy!

You're in luck: Samsung's serving up two devices today rocking Google's dessert themed OS, the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 and the Galaxy Player 4.2. Sammy's latest slate rings in at $400, buying 16GB of internal memory (expandable to 32GB via microSD), a 1GHz dual-core processor and a serving of Ice Cream Sandwich. The Galaxy Player 4.2, on the other hand, can be found munching Gingerbread for a mere $200. If you're looking for a new Galaxy that makes phone calls, however, you'll have to wait for the Galaxy S III.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 Review
14 MaySlashGear
This week we’ve gotten the next Galaxy Player family member in the house with the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1. What’s that, you say? The Galaxy Tab 2 is a tablet and not a Galaxy Player? I beg to differ, ladies and gentlemen, as the Samsung world has done a big split in recent months, with no less than the Galaxy Tab 2 line heading in the direction of the media player while the Galaxy Note line (including the 10.1, for example) moves in the direction the Galaxy Tab 10.1 original started in back at Google I/O in 2011. Have a peek at what the Tab 2 line continues here in the 2 10.1 for the media world.

This device works with a wide variety of Samsung applications made perfect for the Galaxy Tab 2 and Galaxy Player lineup including AllShare, Samsung Media Hub, and Peel smart remote. These applications allow you to control your media on a variety of players and alternate screens as well as share between devices with great ease. You’ll find apps like ChatON popping up on the Galaxy S III as well, it made for Samsung devices to communicate between one another in a powerful way not unlike what BlackBerry did with their BB Messenger.

Here you’ve got a device with a 10.1-inch display, front-facing speakers, and essentially the same setup as you had with the previous Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, the difference being in the selling points – the apps, the way the tablet is marketed, and the processor inside. Instead of the NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor, you’ve got an OMAP4 dual-core processor from Texas Instruments. This means you no longer have access to the Tegra Zone as the original Galaxy Tab 10.1 had, but as this device does present a lower price point than the original Galaxy Tab 10.1 when it was first released, perhaps you wont mind.
Have a peek here at a couple of photo examples and compare to the to our review of the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, as they’re essentially working with the same gear. A 3.2 megapixel camera isn’t necessarily what you’re going to want when you’re going for award-winning photos, but it’ll be good enough for Facebook and Twitter if that’s your thing.

Next have a peek at a couple of benchmarks, and remember that this device is made primarily for watching and transmitting media, not necessarily working to process the video and make hard-hitting games look their best. This device can be compared to the orignal Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 review for power, but remember again that you’ve no longer got the NVIDIA processor which would be giving you access to the Tegra Zone for games. Here instead you’ve got the lower cost tablet and the IR-blaster to change channels on your television.

The last component you’re going to want to look at here is the battery life of this device. It’s tested essentially as well as the rest of the Galaxy Tab line for battery life, that being extremely well considering this device does not work with mobile data. Instead you’ve got wifi-only and the whole machine will stay up with battery for several days if you don’t use it too heavily. Play several full-length videos and you’re looking at more like 8 hours max.
Wrap-up
This tablet is made for those ladies and gentlemen who want the $100 discount off the lowest price on the newest iPad. Though this tablet is not made specifically to compete with the iPad, and it really wont, you’ll find it to be amongst the best values in the Android world for those of you not looking for the best processor on earth. If you just want to watch movies and browse the web, this may well be your best bet on the market today.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 Highlights Android’s Tablet Problem [REVIEW]
13 MayMashable!
Is the large-size Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 a worthy iPad alternative? With its 10.1-inch screen, this is the Samsung tablet that competes most directly with Apple‘s flagship “post PC” product. And with a price $100 cheaper than the entry-level iPad (for the same 16GB of storage), the $400 Tab is certainly a temptress for tablet buyers. In tablet society, though, Samsung and Android have a thinner pedigree than the iPad, and it shows in the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1. While the tablet will certainly please anyone who just wants a decent screen for checking out Netflix videos, the tablet falls short in many key features — notably, the screen.
To be clear, the new Tab is a fine Android tablet. Running version 4.0 “Ice Cream Sandwich” out of the box on a dual-core 1GHz processor and sporting a 1,280 x 800 display, Samsung’s latest toy has a lot to brag about. But when you’re talking tablets, you simply can’t ignore the iOS elephant in the room. Any tablet up for sale doesn’t just have to convince buyers it’s worthy of their cash — it has to show why it’s more worthy than the iPad.
It’s a fair argument to say, that since the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is priced at $400, it’s really competing with the repositioned iPad 2, which now costs the same. But even putting aside the Retina display, better camera and faster processor in the latest Apple tablet, the experience on the Tab 2 (and most Android tablets) is generally a poor substitute for what you get from an iPad.
First of all, the tablet is hampered by the classic Android problem of a lack of good tablet support for many apps. Even mainstream apps like Twitter and Facebook still have stretched-out user interfaces that are more suited to a smaller phone screen. Forget the extremely visual layouts in, say, the eBay app for iPad, and forget running Hulu Plus at all (it doesn’t yet offer support for Samsung’s latest tabs).
The issue isn’t limited to apps. Using the browser, many sites (including Mashable) took me straight to the mobile version, even though the Tab’s 10.1-inch screen is more than enough to take on full web pages.
SEE ALSO: What Android Ice Cream Sandwich Does That iOS Doesn’t All these “is it a phone or a tablet?” issues, of course, are a symptom of Android’s fragmentation problem. With so many devices out there — all with different screens, processors and software — few sites or apps are ready for every possible device. Still, that’s not the buyer’s problem.
Samsung has some tricks that help it stand out from the Android pack, though. Like its little 7-inch brother, the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 has an infrared blaster so you can use the tablet as a remote control. Paired with an pre-installed app called Peel, the tablet can configure itself to control your TV and other gear just by tapping a few virtual buttons.
At least in theory. In practice, the process is much less nimble, and Peel stumbled badly on the first “activity” I attempted to set up. After successfully turning my Pioneer receiver on and off, it then attempted to switch inputs on it, but couldn’t. Worse yet, the app offered no way to skip the step without contacting technical support. I abandoned the process at this point, something I expect the majority of customers would do, too.
Samsung also offers one-stop shopping for movies, music and games right from the home screen. Although when I say “offers,” I should really say “thrusts your face in front of.” The large Samsung storefront widgets that appear on the screen by default highlight exactly what’s wrong with Android, though at least they’re easily deleted.
On pure performance, the Galaxy Tab 2 is a trooper. It performed well in benchmarks, besting most of the phones we’ve reviewed lately and leaving the original iPad in the dust. Still, it didn’t quite beat the iPad 2, and the iPad 3 blew it away. In terms of real-world use, I found there was a slight lag after some finger taps and motion wasn’t quite as fluid as I’d like, but I’m now used to the iPad 3.
At the end of the day, if you’re in the market for a tablet, you could do a lot worse than the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1. It’s a solid performer, and the bright widescreen display is tailor-made for things like watching HD video. But until app developers rise to the challenge of fully supporting Android tablets — and Google gets its fragmentation problem under control — tablets such as the Tab 2 will never make enough noise to be heard over the stampede of customers trampling their way toward the nearest Apple Store.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 lands at UK's Carphone Warehouse
11 MayEngadget
Brits left unaffected by last month's US launch of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 can now get in on the Ice Cream Sandwich action: the silver version of the tablet recently landed at Carphone Warehouse in the UK, and the white model is reportedly coming on May 18th. The retailer is offering the 8GB, WiFi-only flavor for £199. Though the Tab 2 7.0 didn't top the charts when it crossed our reviewer's desk, its solid performance and decent battery life make it one of the best value-priced Android 4.0 slates out there. Click through to the source link to reserve this 7-incher, but if it's the silver model you're after, it looks like you'll have to pick up the phone to make the purchase (at least for now).
